Marion C. Bouvier
I am a curator, writer, editor, publisher and printmaker (in no specific order) based in Tromsø (northern Norway) and Hamburg (Germany).
I founded the Open Out festival in 2017, a week-long art festival centered on queer artists and art, and in 2025 it will take place in Tromsø for the 8th year in a row.
I also co-run MONDO Books, an independent publishing house and bookstore with a focus on circumpolar, artistic publications. MONDO organizes the Arctic Art Book Fair, which took place in Tromsø in 2020, and will take place again in Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat, in 2025.
As a writer, I publish art criticism and essays on Hakapik.no, Billedkunst and other art outlets.
Amongst the publications I have edited are Hakapik: Under Radaren; The Arctic Art Newspaper; Dreaming Awake: 20 Years of Insomnia, as well the self-published Luomeparadiij/Cloudberry Paradise; With Our Hearts in Our Mouths; and Under the Radar.
As a printmaker, I print zines and small-scale art projects, and give workshops on Risography.
Some of the last books I read (and liked)
The Body Keeps the Score
The Red Parts, Maggie Nelson
Communion, Bell Hooks
The Feminist Killjoy Handbook, Sara Ahmed
On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous, Ocean Vuong
Black Sun
Things that I love and that inspire me
Plants, gardening, mountains, snowboarding, my wonderful partner, the universe, northern Norway, lying in deep snow, Riso printing, autumn evenings, the films of Chantal Akerman, seas and rivers, cooking with local ingredients, the heath, making and binding books, small birds, swimming, Buddhist meditation,…
