Art Criticism
My practice as a writer and art critic has been highlighting the need to critically question and reinvent forms of community-making in a specifically northern context, and to create platforms for marginalized voices to exist and thrive. I am interested in the creation of present and future narratives where pessimism is not the only answer to the worldwide crises we are facing, but where we can collectively practice hope and make room for sustainable scenarios.
I have a critically engaged and committed long- term practice. For example I have written several portrait interviews with curators and artists such as Hans Ragnar Mathisen, Dine Fenger Lynge from Dáiddadallu, Riddu Riddu director Sajje Solbakk, Sasusu Radio, Katya Garcia Anton, and Selma Köchling from Lavangsnes Wünderkammer. These have been published in magazines such as Billedkunst and Hakapik.
I also co-edited the “Arctic Art Newspaper” together with Anastasia Pastey and Paavo Heinonen.
I have also been involved in writing art criticism for and co-editing the online magazine Hakapik. The latter has been reflecting on artistic production in Northern Norway and Sápmi. This year marks an exciting new chapter with the launch of our first printed edition, Under the Radar, which highlights self-organized, often artist-run initiatives in the local art scene. In 2025, we will publish two additional print editions with the themes Art in Public Space and Sound Art. As co-editor of these publications, I see this work as an extension of my broader practice—amplifying marginalized voices and alternative narratives through both visual and written mediums. Through Hakapik, we aim to fill a gap in art criticism, nurturing new writers and offering fresh perspectives on the northern art landscape. Given enough resources, I would like to Riso-print one of these new issues.
A long-read about Hans Ragnar Mathisen’s life and art, published by Hakapik in 2021. www.hakapik.no/home/2022/1/7/hans-ragnar-mathisen-portrait-of-a-life-well-lived
Selected Publications

Hakapik: Under Radaren is the first in-print edition of the online magazine Hakapik. Co-edited by Marion Bouvier and Hilde Sørstrøm. The publication chronicles artist-run initiatives in northern Norway.

“Our hearts and our mouths are also the physical repositories of desires, lust, dreams, love and pain. All these feelings that we experience and say nothing about out of fear or lacking the words, and those we express out loud, brazenly, worriedly, passionately. With our hearts in our mouths, it is also how it feels for a lot of us queer people to come out, to be out, to tell someone we want them.” Excerpt from the editorial of “With Our Hearts in Our Mouths” (2021). With contributions from five young queer writers with connections to northern Norway. Printed on Riso at MONDO.

In 2022 I initiated the publication “Luomeparadiijás / Cloudberry Paradise”, an anthology with texts in Northern Sami and Norwegian by Mai Elise Hammer, Camilla Tranås Kristiansen, Ingá Elin Marakatt, Anne Solfrid Nymo Olli, Anonymous, Elina Waage Mikalsen, Helvi Skittmyrstrupen, Hilde Skanche Pedersen, and Katarina Dorothea Isaksen. Ánne Márjá Guttorm Graven was the editor and translator into Sámi.

For “Dreaming Awake: 20 Years of Insomnia,” I spent 9 months researching the history of Insomnia, interviewing staff, the audience, and the many contributors who make this festival happen year after year. Published by Insomnia festival.
